CRV

One thing we have learned about ourselves through the process of buying our new family-mobile is that neither Marta nor I are impulsive buyers. We spent hours on edmunds.com, carmax.com, and all the honda dealers’ sites in southern california, plus all the advice we could get from anyone who would give it.

Today was finally the day though. We were pushing it with showing up at the dealer at 8pm, but we knew what we wanted and we stuck to our price and we got what we wanted: Honda CR-V in Urban Titanium.

Now for some road trips!

Traveling with Yoshitomo Nara

How did I not know that one of my all-time favorite artists has a documentary out? I’ve admired his work for so long I don’t really remember how or when I first heard about him, but I’m pretty pumped to watch Traveling with Yoshitomo Nara.

Add to Netflix Queue > Move to #1 Position > Wait by mailbox

Also, my son Liam has some growing to do before he can wear it, but our friend Jessica Dobson got him one of Yoshitomo Nara’s shirts. We start training at a very young age around here.

Pretty cool huh?

God Hates Retweets!

I remember hearing that the Westboro Baptist Church was going to come through Long Beach, but never got wind of the big day. Thanks Alayna for reminding me of the amazing counter-protest put on by the people of Twitter. Check out some of the signs at laughing squid.

My personal favorite was this one:

Valentine’s Day – 143

143

I know Valentine’s Day was more than a few days ago, but a late post is better than no post at all right? We’ve never been the couple to go all out for this hallmark holiday, but we do like to have fun with it. So, I didn’t get Marta anything from Kay Jewelers, but I did go to quite some effort to get ahold of some vintage type. I found a collection of numbers from a store on etsy, Salvage Nation. She was also kind enough to throw in an old theatre seating number with the same numbers, which for those of you who don’t know/remember, 143 is pager code for I LOVE YOU.

Liam’s first V-day

We spent the day with our new little guy and went over to our friends the O’Malleys for pizza and some Olympics!

Home Improvement Update 2.5

The revisions to our lovely home have continued. It definitely was a lovely house to begin with, but it was a tad on the grandma side. No offense to the previous owner, but i don’t mean the grandma-style that marta loves so dearly. i’m talking christmas-plaid, country-mom, ducks-and-those-dolls-with-straw-hair grandma style!!

Anyways, I have many more photos to post including the mantle and cabinet my friend Mark just built for us, but for now I’m posting a photo of our new/old 1920′s chandelier courtesy of Maile Eaton and the piano that was just passed down to Marta from her Aunt Lisa…Thank you to both parties!

That last photo kept reminding me of that old Spike Jones commercial for Ikea. If you haven’t seen it…change that now:

Electricity is pretty awesome

I thought I would post a little update on all things changing. I had big plans for last Sunday afternoon that got dominated by my lack of electrical knowledge. After a couple wasted hours of tampering with wires I shouldn’t have and calling my electrical engineer step-father, I realized that I simply needed to retest one of the GFI breakers. Consequently, I didn’t get around to some of my other to-dos, but here are some photos of recent changes around the house…

Reupholstered the dining room chairs
And, we are currently re-reupholstering one of them that Henry got to the very first day we had it back. Henry is an outdoor dog now.
chair

New media cabinet
Now we are just waiting for a tv to adorn it with. Anyone ever heard of Proscan? They sell some really inexpensive tvs but are they crap? And, in the picture you can see we put up blinds and curtains.

Really rad vintage armoire
Marta found on craigslist for $200 and we have doors to our bedroom now (with new hardware!)

Boring photo, but a large task
Finally updated all the electrical outlets, switches and coverplates to be white and nice and new!

And finally, 2 of these should be on their way.
However, we’re having second thoughts about them as it will mean we have to get rid of our loveseat recliner chair. Anyone have any thoughts? They do go well with our antler coat hanger…

Oh, last but not least we have 2 other changes going on…

Henry is hardly a puppy anymore and he is “this close” to graduating from puppy school and learning how to shake! Not really on the shaking. And little Liam is growing too…wow, I sound like I’m ready to start the baby blog! Time to buy www.liammarkjones.com…get ready :)
