On July 26, 2009, I placed a “Buy Now” order on eBay for a set of 1940′s motel rocking chairs. They arrived at 10:13pm, October 20, 2009…but they’re here and they look almost as great as the picture we saw of them and that’s what counts! right?

The back story
Here it is: when we first moved into our tiny little home, we knew we were tight on living space so we wanted to make the most of what we had. And since we are lucky enough to live in sunny southern California this includes outside patios and porches. We knew we would need and outside table in the patio and we were eager to get some rocking chairs on the front porch. And by porch I mean steps up to our door that we have decided to squeeze TWO chairs there and call it quaint. So that being said, thank God people were smaller in the 40′s and somebody had the foresight to hang on to these skinny people chairs!
So after wasting some time at Cost Plus and Pottery Barn, we found the perfect chairs on eBay and decided to take our chances vetting scammed. After choosing the “Buy Now” option and getting our payment notification, the seller told me that they do not use FedEx, UPS, or the United States Postal Service…wait…what?!
So I asked them if they would ship via Virgania Horsen’s Pony Express. they pretty much said yes, only his name isn’t Virgania, it’s Doug. So Doug picked up my chairs somewhere in New Hampshire that month and proceded to call me once a month from wherever he was, to assure me that he was still on his way to L.A. One time he called me from the “hills of Maine”. I’m not a total geography buff but I’m pretty sure he did some backtracking…I guess that’s what took him 3 months to get here.
In other news
My mom and sister were visiting this week from Santa Rosa and my grandparents came up for one of the days from San Diego…it was nice being able to all get together!
